• 311, APD, and AFD are at Rose Circle Park for National Night Out.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT – 6:13

• National Night Out is tonight.
• Our Candlelight Concert will be September 26th. Tables and seats are on sale. If you have any potential sponsors for us, please let us know. We will need volunteers to help set up and break down. We’re expecting a sold out show. We’re trying to sell about 800 tickets. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year.

• Nothing to report this month. The only project was a home on Mathews St. where they were replacing the porch.

• As a reminder, West End is a Historic District, so if you are making any changes to your house you will probably need a permit.

• Environmental Health & Beautification – Ben Rybolt, representing Kristen K.

  • Rose Circle Park – Currently there is a section of the park called “The Point”, which is currently mulched. With heavy rains, the mulch often washes away. Friends of the park would like to install some shrubs, a natural border, a central play area, and a rain garden. This park is one block from Herman J. Russell. Currently this park lacks structures for middle school-aged kids. In addition, they’d like to have some more adventurous play, but with a natural look. They’d like to install climbable boulders, which are appropriate for kids aged 5 and up. Budget is $100k for the play equipment, $5k for the surface around equip, $20K for erosion issues. Also they’d like to install a drinking fountain next to the basketball court. Water has already been run there, but additional funds are needed for a fountain. They are asking for a letter of support from WEND. If you have feedback, please send it to WENDbeautification@gmail.com. ParkPride walkthrough was last month. In September, they need to submit a letter of intent to Park Pride, which is where the letter of support from WEND will be helpful. If awarded the grant, they will have one year to get the work done. Mr. Rybolt motioned to request a letter of support from WEND for funding for this park pride grant. Seconded by Carlton W.

• Zoning – Larry Frazer 8:30 pm. Meets last Monday of every month. Advises on new applications as it relates to development, zoning variances. We work hard to make sure that the voices of the community are heard. We also review alcohol licenses and special permits.

WRAP-UP & Announcements

• Rhonda Patrick from Wren’s Nest having community fundraiser this Saturday from 10a-2pm. Asking community to come by for many yard sale fundraiser.
• WEND Elections are coming up in October. Terry Ross will be the Chair of the Nominating Committee. The positions up for election are 1stVP, Treasurer, and Corresponding Secretary. You can send your nominations to  t-ross01@hotmail.com
