April began the City of Atlanta and Park Pride’s Park of the Month program. Four parks were nominated for April’s competition and the evaluating team was impressed with each. In the end, Rose Circle Park from the Southwest District was the clear winner. The crew’s dedication to that park was evident even as the team approached. The crew went above and beyond excellent park maintenance of mowing, edging, weeding, trimming, etc by painting all the drain inlets, painting the playground equipment, cleaning the sidewalks and pavilion, and much more. The crew hung basketball nets, upping their score. The crew also installed new grills and hot coals buckets, which boosted their overall score. What really impressed the team was the crew’s extra initiative of purchasing annual flowers with their own funds, planting them and carrying rain water in buckets to the drought-stricken plants. Never in the three years of evaluating parks has the team noticed a crew taking the initiative of collecting rain water to keep their flowers healthy. Talk about going above and beyond. Congratulations to the crew and management of Rose Circle Park. We hope the crew can maintain their improvements through the next five months in hopes of winning Park of the Year.
