MINUTESWEST END NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT, INC.GENERAL MEETINGSeptember 2, 2008 The W.E.N.D., Inc. General Meeting was held Tuesday, September 2nd, in the Community Room of the West End Public Library. Carl Nes, President, called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. ROLL CALL Attendees signed the attendance roster. Those present at the start of the meeting introduced themselves to the collective body. Board Members present Carl Nes - President John Pavlin – 1st Vice-President Vonda Henry – Secretary Committee ReportsTour of homes, Vonda Henry No report. . Beautification, Vonda Henry, Chair A clean up is needed. Many homes do not have addresses on them, which makes it hard to file a code violation. We have to get address on these homes. Handy Johnson has a map of the neighborhood to help us. Danielle Carney requested $553.00 for banners. The purchase price of a Banner is $50.00. WEND will net approximately $300.00. Motion: To approve the expenditure of $533.00 to purchase banners. All monies collected for banners will be returned to WEND. Motion passed 18 yeas Public Safety, John Pavlin, Chair $170.00 was paid for “Save Number 7”. This money was for signs, banners and calling posts. On Beecher Street 9 drug dealers were arrested. There was a murder on Beecher Street, the deceased was not a resident of West End, nor a upstanding citizen. Preservation and Urban Design, Handy Johnson, ChairA poster showcasing 11 historic districts for marketing purposes will be produced by UDC, the poster will hang in visitors’ center. WEND portion of the cost will be $200.00 and paid from the grant money. . Motion: to approve $200.00 paid from the Historic grant money for printing posters and marketing of Historic West End. Vote: motion passed 18 yeas Education, Joanne Rhone, Chair Brown Middle School needed books materials and students did not have uniforms. Ms. Rhone purchased uniforms on behalf of WEND. Ms Rhone would like WEND members to join the PTA only $10.00 per year. Ms. Rhone will resign as education chair at end of year. Zoning and Land Use, Vonda Henry Mortgage Fraud, Chair OpenMembership, Chair Open Elections: October is the month for elections: The nominees are: Vonda Henry, President John Pavlin, 1st Vice-president Taylor Campbell, 2nd Vice-president Joetta Thomas, Treasury Yomara Valdez Secretary Taylor, Yomora, and Joetta do not fit in the guidelines of the bylaws and no-one else is running. We have to vote to suspend the bylaws in order for them to run. Miscellaneous Bumper Stickers Debbie Zimmerman mentioned that the bumper stickers are to be free to members. The vote was taken and we can not charge members for stickers. Grant Money The money we received for Historic purpose should be reviewed as to what we can do with the money. A committee should be formed. Visitors Raise a millionJelisa Carter from “Raise a Million” On September 27th is going change regular light bulbs to energy efficient ones. A signup sheet was circulated and free bulbs were given out. Fire station 7Mayor Franklin’s veto opposing the re-opening of the fire station was vetoed 11-3. The opposition votes belong to Ann Fauver district 6, Natalyn Archibong district 5, and Clair Muller district 8. Council Member Mitchell gave $9,000.0 out of his budget the entire council was required to reduce its budget by $17,000.00. A letter from WEND is to be drawn up and sent to Mayor Franklin. Beltline 5k runBob Brawner spoke on the details of the 5k run. The run will be October, 18th. The race starts at 9:30am. The race is free but, if you want a t-shirt the cost is $20.00.
