In 1868, the name of White Hall was changed to more “fashionable” West End (named after London’s theater district). West End used to have three theatres:

1. The West End Theatre located at 595 Lee Street, SW (demolished)

2. Cascade Theatre at 1340 Gordon Street (Ralph David Abernathy), SW (demolished White Park now)

3. Gordon Theatre at 960 Gordon Street (Ralph David Abernathy), SW (Shrine of Black Madonna)

But those theatres were movie theatres not like Fly By Theatre where you can see plays, good plays.

Fly By Theatre is  located at West End Performing Arts Center, 945 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd.

Fly-By Theater invited WEND to see the annual new works competition where the audience chooses the winner. Three artistic teams created an original 20 minute play based on this year’s theme: gods, goddesses, prophets. Modern and mythic gods come to life for a brief moment in this dynamic combination of theater and dance.

After seeing the pieces I can tell you that West End is a truly block of culture. This theater is a real treasure in our neighborhood.
