Mary Norwood Pledges to Re-open Station Number Seven if elected

"Several weeks ago we met with four of the candidates for mayor to hear about their vision, qualifications and experience that they believe makes them the best choice to be Atlanta's next mayor," said Jim Daws, President of the Atlanta Professional Fire Fighters Association. "Atlanta needs a mayor who will work every day to keep our city safe," Daws continued. "After looking closely at the candidates, we believe that Mary Norwood is the best choice for a safer Atlanta, and we're proud to give her our support."

Standing in front of Fire Station 7, in the West End, Mary Norwood today announced that her campaign for Mayor has been endorsed by Atlanta Professional Fire Fighters, Local 134.

"I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Atlanta Professional Fire Fighters Association," Mary Norwood said. "Atlanta faces a series of challenges in the coming years, but none is as important as public safety. As I have visited neighborhoods all over our city, I have heard firsthand the concerns people have about making Atlanta safer," Norwood continued. "Atlantans are tired of city hall mismanaging their money while their safety is put at risk as fire stations are closed and public safety employees furloughed. That's wrong, and under my administration, the fire station brown outs will stop, public safety workers will never be furloughed, and the safety of Atlantans will once again be our highest priority," Norwood concluded.

The International Association of Fire Fighters represents 290,000 professional firefighters and paramedics in the U.S. and Canada. The Atlanta Professional Fire Fighters, Local 134 was organized October 4, 1918, nine months after the International Association of Fire Fighters had been chartered.

Norwood represents all of Atlanta's voters in the citywide at-large Post 2. She was first elected in 2001 and re-elected in 2005.

Mrs. Norwood has pledge to re-open fire station #7 if elected.

The election for Mayor will be held in November, 2009. The current Mayor cannot run again due to term limits.
